Structure

The JMA is governed by a Board of Directors which, as mandated by the constitution, consists of the President, Deputy President, the Treasurer and eighteen (18) other elected members.  The Immediate Past President and Executive Director also sit on the Board of Directors. 

Between four and six Vice Presidents are appointed from among the elected Directors and together with the President, Deputy President, Treasurer, Immediate Past President and Executive Director comprise the Executive Committee of the JMA. The Vice Presidents are assigned to Standing Committees and report to the Board on matters relating to:

  • Government Affairs 
  • Policy Development and Advocacy

  • Trade Negotiations & Development

  • Environment, Utilities & Energy

  • Membership Development & Public Relations

  • Fund Raising & Special Projects

  • Finance & Administration

Organizational Structure

An understanding of the various component parts of the J.M.A. is critical to a proper appreciation of the way in which the Association is structured to provide service to its members in particular, and to Jamaicans in general.

MEMBERSHIP
There are three categories of members:

  • Ordinary Members: Who should be engaged in manufacturing; and be a registered company with Articles and Memorandum of Association, and should also be registered under the Factories Law.
  • Associate Members: Are individuals, firms, partnerships or companies which provide service to the manufacturing sector.
  • Member Associations: means Associations engaged or interested in any business in Jamaica and acceptable as such to the Board of Directors.

N.B.: The Standing Committees may change according to the current Administration.

The hub of the activities of the Association is its Product Group Structure which includes eight (8) Product Groups:

GROUP STRUCTURE
The hub of the activities of the Association is its Group Structure. There are currently eight (8) Product Groups which represent the range of manufacturing sub-sectors to be found in Jamaica, and each member is assigned to the group which most accurately reflects its manufacturing activity. The product Groups serve as effective interest groups, and are active in planning the development and protecting the interests of the various manufacturing sub-sectors. Each Product Group is required by Constitution to operate according to certain guidelines, and each Group Chairman sits on the Board of Directors. In addition to these, the Constitution provides for the establishment of Regional Groups throughout Jamaica to consist of a minimum of seven (7) members and located in the counties of Cornwall, Middlesex and Surrey, but excluding the parishes of Kingston and St. Andrew.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The current Board of Directors comprises of the President, the Deputy President, a Treasurer, nine (9) Past Presidents, three (3) Directors for life, twelve (12) Directors, eight (8) Group Chairmen, two (2) representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and JAMPRO, and the Executive Director.

EXECUTIVE
The Executive Committee, which reports to the Board, comprises of the President, Deputy President, Immediate Past President, the Treasurer and six (6) Vice Presidents who are appointed from the elected Directors by the President and Deputy President. The Vice Presidents are assigned by the President (subject to the approval of the Board), responsibilities for certain portfolios. There are currently seven (7) Standing Committees which serve in an advisory capacity to the Board and Executive. These are Finance and Special Projects, Fiscal, Government and Trade Policy, Environment, Membership and Public Relations, Administration and Information Technology and Customs, Transportation and Ports.

SECRETARIAT
The Secretariat provides the link between the Standing Committee, the Product Groups, the Executive, the Board and the members.
