HIV/AIDS Workplace Policy Programme

The JMA has partnered with the Ministry of Health for the support of the project ‘Scale Up HIV/AIDS Treatment, Prevention & Policy Efforts in Jamaica’.  

The project is geared towards increasing awareness in organizations on issues relating to HIV/AIDS in the workplace. It aims to develop policies that will reflect the key principles of the International Labour Organization (ILO), which include: 

  1. Recognition of HIV/AIDS as a workplace issue
  2. Non-discrimination
  3. Gender Equality
  4. Healthy work environment
  5. Social dialogue
  6. No screening for exclusion
  7. Confidentiality
  8. Continuation of employment
  9. Prevention
  10. Care and support
 The following are to be achieved by the end of the project: 
  • 20 private sector companies with 100 or more employees adopting and implementing appropriate policies addressing HIV/AIDS in the workplace
  • Focal point on HIV/AIDS identified in each company
  • Support of 40 trainers from 20 private sector companies
  • 20 CEOs signing commitment documents as leadership advocates
