The Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association (JMA), is calling for the government to make changes to its procurement guidelines to give priority to local suppliers.
This was among recommendations put forward to Industry, Investment and Commerce Minister, Anthony Hylton during a courtesy call yesterday.
Acting JMA President, Metry Seaga, said Jamaican manufacturers are known for making quality products and the Government should begin showing confidence in their goods.
Late last year , he issue of the government’s procurement practices again came to the fore, after it was revealed that the offices of the National Works Agency were renovated using imported furniture.
The JMA had said then that the $62 million spent on the facelift could have been used to benefit Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and the furniture sector.
