Trade > CARIFORUM EC EPA Negotiations
Thirteen (13) of the fifteen (15) CARIFORUM Member States signed the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) in Barbados on October 15, 2008. Haiti and Guyana were the only exceptions. However, Guyana later signed the agreement in Brussels on October 20, 2008.
Representatives of the CARICOM EPA Unit, which is now fully established, visited Jamaica recently to hold consultations on the current status of EPA implementation in Jamaica and to discuss outstanding actions which need to be taken to advance the implementation process particularly in the area of trade in goods and services. The Secretariat also sought to determine the specific capacity needs in respect of implementation of the EPA. The CARICOM Heads of Government at their 31st Meeting in July, 2010 also agreed on a schedule for implementation of the obligations under the EPA which is to be implemented. This will be the focus of the Foreign Trade Division in the coming months. Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade
