Basic Steps

The following steps detail how one starts a manufacturing company:

1.In order to begin or register a manufacturing company a name must be decided and registered with the Registrar of Companies. The Registrar of companies will ensure that the company name is not duplicated.

2. In order to register the company the following documents must be made available to the Registrar of Companies.

  • Memorandum of Association
  • Articles of Association
  • Declaration of Compliance

The fees for registering a company are based on the company’s share capital.

3. The manufacturing process must also be registered with the National Resource Conservation Authority under the Environmental Act.

4. The Factory should also be registered with The Factory Inspectorate Division of the Ministry of Labour.

5. The Manufacturer if engaged in exporting should register with the Jamaica Trade and Invest certification unit that will certify his exports. JTI will also ensure that a manufacturer benefits from incentives such as the Modernization of Industry Programme.

6. The manufactured products should conform to the mandatory product labeling standards of the Jamaica Bureau of Standard.

7. The J.M.A. will visit your plant to inspect your operations in order to confirm your manufacturing status with the relevant authorities.
