The revision of Jamaica’s revised Foreign Trade Policy commenced in September 2011 when funding was secured from TradeCom, an ACP/EU Funding Facility based in Brussels, Belgium. The team of international consultants had consultations with a wide cross section of stakeholders from the public, private sectors and civil society. Consultations were held in both Kingston and Montego Bay. Validation Workshops were held in February 2012. The Consultancy ended in April 2012. In formulating the Policy, we also sought assistance from UNCTAD. They prepared a paper for us on Jamaica’s Trade Policy Framework. We also reviewed trade policies from various countries. The work continued after the Consultancy ended.
From the comments received from stakeholders, the Ministry further revised the document and additional consultations were held with stakeholders. Several sessions were held with the Cabinet Office to ensure that the document followed the guidelines established by that Office for the formulation and drafting of government policies.
We are requesting that you provide written comments and updated information by Wednesday, 29th May 2013.
Following receipt of your comments and revision of the document based on these, the Ministry will be submitting the draft for the consideration of the International Relations and Trade Committee of the Cabinet.
